Thom L. Cooper, CELA
Founder of the Thom L. Cooper Company

Over thirty years ago, Attorney Cooper created the law firm that would become Cooper, Adel and Associates with the goal of representing seniors in a way that maximized their independence and minimized the stress and burden placed on loved ones. Since then, Attorney Cooper has provided educational seminars throughout Ohio to spread the word about estate planning and elder law. He has helped thousands of seniors and their families find public benefits to protect and preserve their assets. Attorney Cooper is one of only 22 attorneys in Ohio certified as Elder Law Specialists by the National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) and Attorney Cooper was among the charter members to become certified in 1995. NELF is approved by the Ohio Commission on Certification of Attorneys as Specialists and by the American Bar Association.

Attorney Cooper is rated “10 Superb” by AVVO which is a professional organization that rates 95% of the attorneys in the US and considers years in practice, disciplinary history, professional achievements and industry recognition.

Attorney Cooper has devoted a portion of his practice to veterans and their surviving spouses. He has been admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Attorney Cooper is a past president of the American Association of Trust, Estate and Elder Law Attorneys (AATEELA), an invitation-only, nationwide professional association and a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).

Attorney Cooper graduated from Allegheny College, obtained a PhD from The Ohio State University and a law degree from Capital University. Attorney Cooper and his wife, Kathy, who works at the firm, have two daughters, one is completing her residency in surgery at Johns Hopkins and the other is completing her law degree at the University of Dayton.

Mitchell J. Adel, CELA

Attorney Adel is one of only 22 attorneys in Ohio certified as an Elder Law Specialist by the National Elder Law Foundation (NELF) and Attorney Cooper was among the charter members to become certified in 1995. Attorney Adel graduated from Ithaca College in New York and Capital Law School in Ohio, earning his Juris Doctorate in 2000. In his spare time, Mitch and his wife Kim enjoy spending time with their niece and nephew and play co-rec softball and golf with their friends.

Daniel H. Vu
Senior Associate Elder Law Attorney

Attorney Vu joined Cooper, Adel & Associates to pursue his interest in estate planning. Attorney Vu has been instrumental in developing the firm's advanced estate planning strategies including special trusts designed to protect and preserve the assets of higher net worth clients. He has been closely involved in assisting our clients who are Veterans and their surviving spouses to apply for benefits and to coordinate those benefits with other programs. Attorney Vu is among a select group of attorneys in the State of Ohio, who have been admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals For Veterans Claims in addition to receiving accreditation from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Attorney Vu is also the go-to attorney for negotiating Medicaid estate recovery cases to reduce claims from the state. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Ohio State Bar Association. Attorney Vu has spoken to groups around Ohio about the estate planning implications related to hydraulic fracking (oil and gas from shale) as well as trust and estate planning opportunities for large estates.

Attorney Vu graduated from Miami University with an undergraduate degree in Political Science and obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati Law School. After working for a Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General, Attorney Vu joined Cooper, Adel & Associates, LPA where he was promoted to Senior Associate Elder Law Attorney in 2012. Attorney Vu and his wife were born and raised near Cincinnati. They enjoy frequent visits to local museums and parks. In particular, they are proud members of the historical Cincinnati Museum Center. When not researching the latest estate planning techniques, Dan enjoys taking time to learn more about our country's history. As they say, you cant know where you are going until you know where you have been.

Edward A. Brown
Senior Associate Elder Law Attorney

Attorney Edward A. Brown is an Elder Law Attorney in the statewide Elder Law practice of Cooper, Adel & Associates, L.P.A. where his practice areas include trusts, estate planning, estate and trust administration and probate administration.

Attorney Brown graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton School of Law. Before joining Cooper, Adel & Associates, Attorney Brown clerked for Federal Election Commission in Washington, D.C. and the University of Dayton Office of General Counsel. Attorney Brown is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Cincinnati Bar Association and is working to become a member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys.

Nathaniel T. Simpson
Associate Elder Law Attorney

Attorney Nathaniel T. Simpson is an Elder Law Attorney in the statewide Elder Law Practice of Cooper, Adel & Associates, LPA. He focuses his area of practice on nursing home planning and veteran’s benefits. Attorney Simpson graduated from Miami University with an undergraduate degree in History and Political Science and obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Cincinnati. Attorney Simpson is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association.
Keith A. Stevens
Associate Elder Law Attorney

Attorney Keith A. Stevens is an Elder Law Attorney in the statewide Elder Law practice of Cooper, Adel & Associates, L.P.A. where his focuses on trusts and estate planning. Attorney Stevens graduated from the Robert E. Cook Honors College at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in History and obtained his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School. Prior to joining Cooper, Adel & Associates Attorney Stevens clerked for the Franklin County Probate Court and for the Cincinnati Insurance Company’s Office of Trial Council in Columbus. Attorney Stevens is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Columbus Bar Association.
Virginia McCann
Associate Elder Law Attorney

Attorney Virginia S. McCann is an Elder Law Attorney in the statewide Elder Law practice of Cooper, Adel & Associates, L.P.A. where her area of focus is on nursing home planning. Attorney McCann graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Philosophy and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law. Attorney McCann is a member of the Columbus Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association.
